Winterfest 2010- Ski Joring Rules Divisions and criteria- Saturday there is one division. Participants must be 16 years of age at the time of the event to participate. Sunday divisions: · Open- anyone 16 years of age at the time of the event can compete. · Sport- anyone 16 years of age at the time of the event can compete if they did not won first place at the Winterfest Ski Joring 2009 Sunday event. · Century – a team must have a combined age of 100 at the date of the event and may not have won first place at the Winterfest Ski Joring Sunday event. Saturday’s Registration 9:30-11am at the Big Hole Crossing Restaurant; competitors briefing 11:30 at the starting line; race starts at 1200 noon. Sunday’s Registration ü Open Division registration occurs on Saturday is from 9:30 am until 6 pm. If want your open class team to be sold in the Calcutta on Saturday night, you must be signed up and paid by 6pm. ü Sport and Century Divisions-We will accept registrations for the Sport and Century Divisions on Sunday morning from 9:30am until 11:00am. Sport and Century Divisions will not be in the Calcutta. ü Sunday competitors briefing is at 11:30 at the start area. Race starts at 1200 noon. All donations and funds retained by the Association are used to buy materials, insurance and sponsor future events. Fees- An entry is one skier or one rider. If you get in three times it will be $60 or $90 depending on the division. Saturday fees - $20/entry the draw pot Sunday’s fees – Open Class $30, Sport $20, Century $20 Overall rules – 1. All Skiers must sign a liability waiver. If under18 the parents of the skier must sign. 2. Skiers must use the approved rope and it must be pulled from the horn of the saddle or the cantle. If behind the saddle the attachment must not be more than 4 inches from the cantle and must not be elastic. The Big Hole Tourism will supply the ropes used in the event. 3. Timers will flag the skier not the horse. 4. Skiers go right of the red gates, left of the blue gates. 5. Skiers missing a gate or a jump will result in a 5 second penalty. If the rope in front of the skier displaces a gate it is a 5 second penalty. If the rope behind the ski displaces a gate it is not a penalty. If the horse displaces a gate, goes through a gate, or breaks the plan of a jump, it is a 5 second penalty. 6. Ski tips and boots must go through the gate. 7. The skier must be holding the rope and be in an upright position at the end of the race; at least one skis and both boots must go through and across the finish line/gate; no other body part may on the ground. The rider must also be on the horse. 8. Participants should not drink alcohol before or during the race. 9. The course rules judge can disqualify a contestant, if they are unable to complete the course safely, or a horse if it is injured or becomes unruly or a safety hazard in the start area. 10. Once a team is called to start, the team has 4 minutes to ready themselves or they will be disqualified. 11. A team can have one restart if the skier drops the rope before the first gate at the start of the race in the Saturday event, the Sport and the Century Divisions. 12. Skiers must wear a helmet and eye protection. 13. Horses may be walked through the course without skiers to get them familiar with the course. Stay in the middle of the course. 14. Decisions by the chairman of the rules committee will be final. 15. Good sportsmanship must be practiced by all. 16. Riders match the speed of your horse to the conditions and the ability of the skiers. Saturday · There will be two go rounds. Times will be combined. · Draw pot format; enter up to three times, the rules committee will draw teams at random. Teams may switch horses between go a rounds. Sunday · There will be two go rounds in each Division. Times will be combined. · Teams enter once. · Team members may be a part of two teams however switching ends is not a new team. · Teams may not switch horses between go a rounds in the Open Division. · Skiers may only enter and race one Division. Horses may only enter and race in one Division. Riders may enter 2 Divisions. · Winners of First Place at the Sunday 2009 Ski Joring event may only participate in the Open Division. Pay outs Saturday 50% of the purse Fastest time per go -$40 to the team – 2 goes on Saturday All other payouts are based on the combined times of two runs. 2-5 teams – 2 places paid 60%- 40% 6-10 teams -3 places paid 50%-30%-20% 11or more teams – 4 places paid 40%-30%-20%- 10% Sunday Open Division, 80% of the purse and 100% of the added money Fastest time of the day -$40 to the team All other payouts are based on the combined times of two runs. 2-5 teams – 2 places paid 60%- 40% 6-10 teams -3 places paid 50%-30%-20% 11or more teams – 4 places paid 40%-30%-20%- 10% Sport Division 50% of the purse Fastest time per go -$40 to the team – 2 goes in Sport Division All other payouts are based on the combined times of two runs. 2-5 teams – 2 places paid 60%- 40% 6-10 teams -3 places paid 50%-30%-20% 11or more teams – 4 places paid 40%-30%-20%- 10% Century Division 50% of the purse Fastest time per go -$40 to the team – 2 goes in Century Division All other payouts are based on the combined times of two runs. 2-5 teams – 2 places paid 60%- 40% 6-10 teams -3 places paid 50%-30%-20% 11or more teams – 4 places paid 40%-30%-20%- 10% Calcutta 70% of the purse All payouts are based on the combined times of two runs. 2-5 teams – 2 places paid 60%- 40% 6-10 teams -3 places paid 50%-30%-20% 11or more teams – 4 places paid 40%-30%-20%- 10% No refunds will be given in the Calcutta. If for some reason your team does not race on Sunday there will be no refund. All teams must be purchased. Team members will be expected to buy their own team for $10 if no one else bids.
